About HUE Lab
Comfort | Health | Happiness
We are the Human-centric Urban Environments (HUE) lab. Based at Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD) in the Pillar of Architecture and Sustainable Design (ASD), we conduct research at the crossroads of architectural design, indoor environmental quality, and human performance. We aim to gain a better understanding of the relationships between thermal and acoustic comfort, indoor air quality, lighting, and energy efficiency and how they affect human well-being, health, and productivity in urban settings through our research. Our research projects aim to develop new strategies and technologies for joyful buildings that are not only comfortable and healthy but also contribute to sustainability by reducing environmental impact.

Key research areas: Human-Building Interaction, Occupant, Well-being, Comfort, Health, Quality of life, Indoor Environmental Quality
Our Team and Collaborators
We are a growing research lab in the Architecture and Sustainable Design (ASD) Pillar in the Singapore University of Technology and Design.
Dr. Geraldine Quek, Ph.D.
Lab Director
Dr. Geraldine Quek, Ph.D., is a Faculty Early Career Award (FECA) Fellow in the Architecture and Sustainable Design (ASD) pillar at SUTD. Her research seeks to advance knowledge on the interaction of occupants’ psychological and physiological responses in buildings toward holistically healthy and comfortable human-centric building designs.
Dr. Zheng Kai, Ph.D.
Lab Co-Director
Dr. Zheng Kai, Ph.D., is a Lecturer in the Architecture and Sustainable Design Pillar at the Singapore University of Technology and Design. His work investigates how evaporative cooling can be deployed in building design to achieve Thermal Comfort for the Tropics and his interests also lie in how architectural energy systems can work in synergy.
Dr. Riccardo Talami, Ph.D.
Collaborator
Dr. Riccardo Talami, Ph.D., is a Research Fellow at the Department of the Built Environment at the National University of Singapore (NUS). He collaborates with HUE Lab on research projects toward optimizing energy-efficient indoor environments for comfort and well-being.
Dr. Michal Gath-Morad, Ph.D.
Collaborator
Dr. Michal Gath-Morad, Ph.D., is a SNSF Postdoctoral Fellow at the Barlett School of Architecture at University College London (UCL). She collaborates with HUE Lab on research projects towards understanding the interaction between cognitive neuroscience and the physical built environment.
Dr. Thanyalak Srisamranrungruang, Ph.D.
Collaborator
Dr. Thanyalak Srisamranrungruang, Ph.D., is a Postdoctoral Researcher at The Organization for the Strategic Coordination of Research and Intellectual Properties at Meiji University. She collaborates with HUE Lab through research exchange on performative facades and energy prediction.
